The exercises contained in our DVD
are simple, safe exercises for older people, which can be done without any special equipment in your own home.
There are seated, supported and standing movements which are suitable for all older people, from the inactive to the active.
My instructional exercise DVD has been designed for older people to make it easy to start exercising at home.
I show you simple safe exercises which you can do at home without any special equipment. Each exercise is demonstrated with a clear verbal explanation.
For many this exercise DVD may appear easy, that’s the idea so you can do the exercises comfortably - increase your range of movement by using good technique and correct postural alignment. I encourage you to work at your own pace, taking rest breaks when needed throughout the DVD.
It is advisable to start at the beginning and work your way through this DVD. I start with a long seated section with Rene who joins me for some of this section. This includes warm-up, mobility, co-ordination and stretches.
The speed of the movements shown and the order in which the exercises are done for the various parts of the body are designed carefully to offer you maximum benefit.
If you follow the DVD in this way the exercises progress naturally which allows you time to become familiar with the exercises. So when we start combining both arm and leg work together for co-ordination work it is easier to follow.
Then we work on leg strengthening - Sit to Stand. This will help those who have difficulty standing from a seated position.
Standing and supported moves and balance exercises which are a little more demanding, then ending with a seated cool down with stretches.
Listen to your body and take a rest when you feel the need to.
By progressing gently and gradually you will benefit from this DVD.
It is better to do shorter sections and rest until your body becomes accustomed to the exercises.
Many people while exercising are concentrating so much that they hold their breath. If you find you are one of these people - many are - speak out loud or count and you will breathe normally and comfortably. e.g. “side and in, side and in”.
